Since its inception in October, 1952, the independent Festival Records has been synonymous with Australian music. The company's very first release was "Meet Mr Callaghan" by Sydney bandleader Les Welch and since that time, every conceivable style and direction of popular (and often traditional) music in this country has been captured for posterity by Festival. Always a sympathetic outlet for smaller independent domestic labels and producers, Festival was responsible for or assisted in the rise of Johnny O'Keefe, The Bee Gees, Billy Thorpe, Normie Rowe, Sherbet, Skyhooks and Split Enz, to name but a few.
This series was initiated to enable the re-issue of a wide range of Australia's recorded cultural heritage, much of which has been unavailable for some decades. Some fun, some serious but all interesting."
