Notes
This is a very unusual and highly limited CD. The CD is not on On-U Sound as you might expect but was commissioned by the Tramway Theatre in Glasgow for Graham Fagen's exhibition "Clean Hands Pure Heart", 11th February - 13th March 2005.The exhibition incorporated sculpture, video and music, the latter being pressed to disc and what you are now looking at. Fagen and Sherwood go back a long way, apparently, and so Sherwood was asked to provide the music for the exhibition. Along for the ride was Ghetto Priest providing vocals and Skip McDonald on guitar and co-production.
The exhibition's info sheet explained that Fagen was born and bred in Glasgow and grew up in the 70s and 80s developing a taste for reggae on the way. The idea of the musical part of the exhibition was to crossover the sounds of his Scottish roots (and who better to choose than Robert Burns) with those of the world he then ventured into - namely Jamaica. The result is strange indeed. Also incorporated into the three tracks on the CD is another, very different song also by Robert "Rabbie" Burns, "The Slave's Lament". It is the two songs blended together that form the basis of the CD.
The CD insert incorrectly notes the year of the exhibition as being 2004.
1000 copies were pressed.
"Nancy", "Bell" and "Roselle" are the names of screenprints from the exhibition, which depict ship illustrations in newspapers used to advertise the passages to Jamaica on which Burns was booked.
