this album explores two unexplored possibilities in classical music.

the first imagines cornelius cardew continuing to compose avant-guarde music long after he turned his back on it and embraced romantic and political forms - a politically engaged avant guarde.

the second imagines william herschel continuing to compose after he began working on telescopes and stumbling upon a music embracing the romantic sense of awe with scientific rationalism - a music for telescopes to match his and caroline herschel's scientific work.
