Liner Notes:

This Album, which is dedicated to the man whose music has intrigued all music lovers, features the original and authentic trombone styling of Don Drummond.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, in the year 1934 [1932], Don D., as he was called by his many fans, attended the Alpha Boys School where he was a prominent member the School Band. Being a gifted and devoted musician with a wide sense of imagination, he spent many hours at rehearsals, which enable[d] him to soar above those in his field.

In 1955, mature enough for the bandstand, Don D., joined the internationally famous Eric Deans Band. He was voted "Best Trombonist" in 1954 in Jamaica and was the featured trombonist in the jazz orchestra formed that year, then in 1955, though in failing health, he formed the group called "The Don Drummond Four" whose performance at the tercentenary jazz concert will always be remembered by the jazz lovers in Jamaica.

Don Drummond's artistry and styling attracted the attention of promoter C. S. (Coxonne) Dodd, who has produced a vast number of hits on the local and international scene. Under Dodd's management, Don made his first recording in 1956 "On the Beach" with vocals by Owen Grey. Soon after this and a few other recordings. Don was forced to retire from the music scene due to health reasons, until 1957 when he came back with a big one -- "This [That] Man Is Back".

This genius of the trombone was very quiet, reserved and somewhat shy; indeed most of his talking was done through his trombone, which in later years gave us such favorites as "Green Island", "Man in the Street", "Scrap Iron", "Eastern Standard Time" and a host of others, some of which are featured in this album.

In his last years of musical fame he was the most featured soloist of the Skatalites, the foremost exponents of the "Ska" the jamaican sound went great with the local, caribbean and international dance fans.

It is with a deep sense of loss that Don Drummond's death in 1969, after a three year absence from the bandstand, has been mourned by all music lovers.

So be it! Music has been accused of many things, for this album it is hereby accused of being the happy inspiration for some of the greatest instrumentals put together.
