'Allotropy' was commissioned in June 1985 by Allotrophy Exhibition (Jan Smith-Merritt and Stephen Hill), two American video artists. It was composed to accompany their performance video, reflecting not only the visuals we were presented with but also their personalities which became an integral part of the whole project. The final video piece is not available but by releasing the music this CD stands as evidence of its existence.
Originally released in cassette form in 1987.
This version was specifically re-mixed for CD in May 1989.

On this version, one spine appears to be misprinted with no type.
The catalog number is "ST CD 002" on the spine and "ST C.D. 002" on the CD and back insert.

This was possibly manufactured and distributed in the USA by Soleilmoon under the Staalplaat/Staaltape name.
