THE BAND
St. Austell is one of the beauty spots of Cornwall, and will be known to countless thousands of holiday makers, but how many are aware that this town possesses one of the finest bands in the U.K. They are a band of amateur musicians whose one delight is to give pleasure to their listeners, and ' thoroughly enjoy music for the art’s sake. Their ability will be unquestionable when you have listened to the musicianship contained in this disc. They were originally known as St. Austell Volunteer Band from the time they were reported to have been started in the late nineteenth century until after the 1914-18 war, when they became St. Austell Silver Band, and then in February 1971, The St. Austell Band. Their up-to-date achievements include South West Bands Association Champions five times in the last six years. Finalists in “LB. & H.O. Wills Championships during the past two years; they were awarded second prize at The Royal Albert Hall in April 1972. They have also qualified for the National Finals, and will compete at The Royal Albert Hall in October 1972.
