Notes

This album didn't start out as a duets album. John Themis and I wrote a song we felt would be suitable for Christy Moore, Luka Bloom and I to sing for a fantastic cause, "Children In Crossfire".

Christy and Luka took it on board and they made a fantastic job - and I had a great day recording with them in the studio in Dublin. But then it had to be good - they both have that special "IT" factor. Anything Christy turned his hand to would be a success and Luka has great empathy and insight. Though we never expected the single to grow from that into a duets album.

When he heard the track, I was asked by Dave Pennefeather from Universal Music Ireland if I'd ever thought about making a duets album. It sounded great, so he told me to pick all the artists that I'd like to work with - artists that would mean something to me and my songs. So firstly, I'd like to say thanks to him for making this happen and secondly, a massive big hug and thanks to everyone who gave their time and their art for this album.

My daughter, Hermione, has had to move over to allow all these singers to duet with me, as on every other album I have always written a duet for us. But there's a new one included on this album too, and it's just for her!

- Christie Hennessy, November 2007

"Christie's creativeness came from within, there is nothing so gentle as real strength, there is nothing so strong as gentleness. I am both humbled and proud to have had a musical collaboration with him"
- Liam O'Connor

"Knowing Christie was an honour. Working with him was a privilege. Such a warm and caring person with a laid back sense of genius and a twinkle in his eye. He will always be close to my heart like a father"
- Bianca Kinane

"It was songs like 'I Am A Star' that inspired me to be a singer"
- Ronan Keating

"'All The Lies That You Told Me'. It was the song for me that changed my life in this country"
- Frances Black

"He was a mind-blowing performer. His humour. His banter with the audience. Everything about him"
- Tommy Fleming

"I never heard anything like him. He had the most unusual style of playing the guitar and his voice was incredible"
- Finbar Furey

"His personality leaps through his voice. It's a totally individual personality"
- Paul Brady

"I was so happy to get the opportunity to sing with Christie and be part of this duets album - it was a great honour"
- Mary Black

"Christie sings his own songs the best, because they belong to him. You can always hear his voice in the background, even when you're singing"
- Moya Brennan

"Christie's first album is still one of my favourite albums of all time. It's a very very unique album. 'Don't Forget Your Shovel' turned my career around. I went from being a folk singer who played in folk clubs to going on to bigger things on the back of that song"
- Christy Moore

"I consider it a great blessing in my life to have met Christie and to share a song with him and to connect with his spirit and his greatness. It's a big deal"
- Luka Bloom

"I only knew Christie for a short time but I will remember him forever. Such a lovely man and so much talent. I was honoured to be asked to sing 'Mr. Blue' with him. Thank you Christie"
- Victoria Hart

"Christie Hennessy was a wonderful and inspiring man. I loved singing with him on 'Don't Forget Your Shovel'. He was in great voice and the recording is full of joy. He is loved by many, and his music contributes to the great river of Gaelic song, that makes this world all the better to live in"
- Luke Concannon

"He had a real talent as a producer to get you to put more heart into the music"
- Aled Jones

"Christie was the most gentle of men with the deepest thoughts revealed in humour and innocence. He was a revelation to us and it was an honour to share time and work with him"
- Monto
