The main character and focus of this recording is a woman named "Joan", who tells her real life story of prostitution - a life started at the age of Seventeen and which finds her today, a tired, no longer-pretty woman of Thirty-Two, clutching to the affection of her man with dredful need that only a prostitude can know, and utterly dependent on the one other thing thatmakes her life bearable: Drugs!

Sara Harris, who is the interviewer and had interviewed hundreds of other prostitutes prior of the making of this recording was captivated by "Joan" who becomes her main research subject for a book that she's writing, by the same title.
