The title of this compilation follows the format of an infamous feature in the 1976 punk fanzine Sideburns (often credited to fanzine Sniffin' Glue in error). The original design gave diagrams for three guitar chords (A, E and G) with the captions "this is a chord / this is another / this is a third / now form a band" pushing the DIY ethos of the punk scene. Here the same philosophy is applied to techno music by referencing three vintage synths / drum machines made by Roland.
