Notes for the 2013 version:
After being introduced to the jazz world through Charles Lloyd's quartet, Michel Petrucciani made his Blue Note debut as a leader with "Pianism" in 1985. The next summer he was doing some club engagements with the always open-minded guitarist Jim Hall. A European tour was set up for the duo that included the Montreux Jazz Festival. When the idea of making the Montreux appearance his next album came up, the search was on for a special guest to make it a unique event. Just weeks before the tour, Wayne Shorter, who almost never did sideman appearances, said yes. And a very special and unique trio was born before a full audience with the tapes rolling.
